| Project: | "My Allyis" Intranet Re-design |
| Details: |
My Allyis was a project to completely re-think and re-design Allyis' corporate intranet. Major goals included creating a new methodology for information storage and dissemination, facilitating easier communication between individuals and teams, developing a more maintainable and scaleable site, and modernizing the site with a more current design and layout. The site was developed on the Microsoft SharePoint framework and required significant custom development on both the front and back end. |
| Responsibilities: |
Ben's main responsibilities on this project included translating the designers graphic mockups into code, developing dataviews in conjunction with a publishing desk for easy user editing, and creating custom web parts for enhanced site functionality and user interaction. Ben designed a significant number of the modules on the home page, almost all of which are user-editable via a custom publishing page which he also developed. This allows less technical personnel to maintain and publish updates for homepage content without needing to come to a developer for help. The Employee Finder was a major custom web part which Ben developed. It was intended to give users a simple and easy way to find fellow Allyis employees without necessarily knowing all the details about who they are looking for. It leverages SharePoint's built in web services to dynamically build a list company teams, managers, and job titles. On submitting the form the list is filtered to contain only users who match the selected criteria. |
